The college is affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and is also an Associate Institute of this University. It is a government aided co-educational Post-Graduate college. It is accredited B+ Grade by NAAC. It is situated in natural surroundings at Sarhali on the Amritsar - Tarn Taran - Harike highway. It is the biggest College among all the rural colleges of Punjab. About six hundred girls and eight hundred boys are studying in this college. It is one of the leading colleges which have started various professional computer and other job-oriented courses. The college is running courses in the Arts, Commerce, Science and Computer Science streams. The college has secured a prestigious position in the field of education. It maintains a high academic standard. It has experienced and hard working staff that work with a missionary zeal. Discipline and work-culture pervade the campus. The institution strictly adheres to the rules and regulations of the U.G.C., D.P.I. and Guru Nanak Dev University in all academic affairs.

A spacious and well maintained playground is an added attraction to the potential sportspersons. A state-of-the-art double storey cafeteria has been constructed for students. The ever-growing computerized college library with its books, magazines, journals and newspapers is pride of the college. Book Bank facility is available to the needy and the poor. The college building is attractive, neat and airy. A splendid well-groomed lawn in the campus is simply bewitching. Three powerful generators have been installed to supply uninterrupted power to the whole college. Concessions to the deserving and intelligent students are also granted. The college has a fleet of twelve buses for the commutation of its students. The bus facility is available for Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Patti, Valtoha, Khemkarn, Bhikhiwind, Chhabal, Sabhra, Goindwal Sahib, Fatehabad, Chohla Sahib, Moga, Zira, Makhu and Harike routes.  Separate bus facility is available for girl students.

Every year, the religious ceremony of Bhog of Sri Akhand Path of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is observed to mark a holy beginning of the academic session. A cultural programme incorporating inter college competition is held in the last week of October or in the first week of November. The Sports Day (Annual Athletic Meet) is organized in February. Annual Convocation and Prize Distribution (Sports & Academic) functions are held in the last week of February. Various colourful cultural items are presented in these functions. Seminars and guest lectures by subject experts are also held during the session. The students are asked to give their feed-back reports. Efforts are made for improving the academic standard according to the suggestions received from the students. Tutorial groups are also arranged on week-ends. Language-Lab facility has been provided to develop communication skills of students. All lecturers submit their daily work-report regarding what was taught and how. The assessment of the syllabi covered in various classes is also done periodically.
