Academic Council
An academic council has been constituted which governs and supervises the academic activities. It prepares an Academic Calendar according to the University Syllabi. The syllabi are divided into three terms. The first term begins from July to September, the Second term extends from October to December & the Third term is from January to March. House tests are held in the last week of September & the last week of December. This academic calendar is distributed among the students right in the beginning of the session. The council also oversees the progress made in the completion of syllabi of all the classes. Weekly & Monthly tests are evaluated by this council. Any deficiency or weakness in academic activity is discussed & solution found and implemented. The acadmic council comprises Sh. Jatinder Kumar (Convener), Mrs. Surjeet Kaur, S. Parmvir Singh, S. Paramjit Singh, Sh. Ajay Sehgal & S. Jasbir Singh.

Library Supervisory Committee
The main function of this committee is to check the overall working of the library & to see that the library functions in such a way as to provide the best service to the students. Latest publications are added to the stock of library with the recommendations of this committee. The committee includes S. Birender Singh (Convener), S. Kuldip Singh (Member) & Mrs. Summi Arora (Member) The committee checks the stock of the library once a year. It gives suggestions for the improvement in the working of the library.

Publication Committee

This committee supervises publication activities of the college. The various college publications are Prospectus, Academic Calendar, Magazine "Param Purkh", Information Brochure & the Research Journal. The committee comprises Sh. Jatinder Kumar, S. Parmvir Singh, and S. Paramjit Singh who are responsible for the compilation of these publications. The sub editors of the College Magazine are college students who select and arrange articles etc. for the magazine with the assistance from the committee.

 Seminar Committee
The function of the Seminar Committee is to organise and supervise seminars, guest/extension lectures, workshops, Fairs and exhibitions during the academic session. Distinguished guest faculty are frequently invited to deliver lecture on special topics for the benefit of students of Post Graduate courses. The aim is to keep the students as well the teachers abreast of the latest development in their respective disciplines. The Committee comprises Mrs. Summi Arora, Sh. Ajay Sehgal, S. Paramjit Singh, Mrs. Kanwalpreet Kaur  Sh.Jatinder Kumar, S. Jasbir Singh and S. Gurcharan Singh.

Discipline/Student Welfare Committee
In order to maintain discipline in the college campus, a committee has been formed with S. Lakha Singh (Convenor) , Sh. Jatinder Kumar, S. Kuldeep Singh, S. Paramvir Singh, Mrs. Summi Arora, S. Jasbir Singh, Mrs. Kanwalpreet Kaur and Hardeep Singh Ghuman as Members of the committee. The committee works for creating a pleasant and conducive academic atmosphere. It maintains close relations with the students and keeps watch on their activities. It tries to arouse creative interests in them. It remains constantly active for their welfare. It also recommends fee concessions to be granted to the poor and the deserving students. All discipline matters come under the purview of this committee. All committees keep in touch with the students to know their feelings & reactions to various projects taken up by the college during the academic session. Any healthy suggestion by the students is welcomed and is implemented at the earliest. New committees are constituted as and when the need arises.

Grievance Redressal Committee
The committee looks into the grievances of the students as well as of the staff and takes measures to redress them suitably. The committee comprise Sh. Jatinder Kumar (Convenor), S. Paramjit Singh, S. Jasbir Singh, Sh. Ajay Sehgal and Mrs. Surjit Kaur.

Purchase Committee
The college purchases a wide variety of articles for growth and development of the college infrastructure from time to time. A committee has been formed to supervise all purchases. The purchase made or construction work done out of the SGF Account is carried out strictly according to the rules of the University Calendar and with the consent of the students. The committee comprises Sh. Jatinder Kumar (Bursar), Sh. Ajay Sehgal, S. Paramjit Singh, Mrs. Ravinderjit Kaur and S. Jasbir Singh.

Anti-ragging Committee
To check the menace of ragging an anti-ragging committee has been constituted on the directives of Hon'ble Supreme Court of India. An undertaking will be taken at the time of admission from every student that he/she will not involve himself/herself in ragging. If a student gives a false undertaking he/she will be expelled from the college. The committee will recommend to the Principal to register FIR's against students indulging in ragging. The committee comprises S. Birender Singh, Mrs. Surjit Kaur, S. Jasbir Singh, S. Paramvir Singh and Mrs. Ravinderjit Kaur.

Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)
The college has been assessed by the NAAC and has been awarded B+ grade. After getting the accreditation, the college has created the Internal Quality Assurance Cell in Aug. 2005 to meet the requirements for the accredited institutions. The function of the cell is to develop and apply quality benchmarks in various activities of the college and to record and monitor quality measures of the institution.

Tutorial System

The basic aim of the tutorial groups is to promote the comprehensive development of students. The students are divided into groups and each student is assigned to a tutorial group. Each group is supervised by a lecturer, who is the tutor of the group. Students facing any kind of difficulty in the college can get help of the tutor. There is a close relationship between the tutor and the students and every month their meeting is held. A Chief Tutor supervises the network of tutorial groups.

Health Facilities
 Special attention is paid to the health of the students. Students are medically examined by an M.B.B.S. doctor from time to time. A record of Blood Group of students is also maintained. Economically poor students are given medicines free of cost. Special attention is given to the quality of eatables available in the Cafeteria. Filtered drinking water facility is provided to the students.

Religious Education
Besides their formal study, students are also imparted religious and moral education. They are encouraged to celebrate religious functions and Gurpurbs. They are taught to live according to the tenets of the Ten Masters and The Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Special lectures are delivered on auspicious occasions so that the students can derive inspiration from their rich heritage, history and religion. Divinity period is compulsory for all classes.

NCC
The NCC wing of the college is operational since the inception of the college in 1970. The cadets are trained for ’B’ and ’C’ certificates under the NCC programme. They are sent to participate in annual camps, national camps and other camps organized from time to time. The NCC training infuses spirit of nationalism in them, broadens their outlook and helps them to develop qualities of discipline, leadership, team spirit and service before self. Besides, holders of ’C’ certificate get extra weightage when they appear for interview to various jobs especially in the Armed Forces. They are also entitled to direct recruitment as lieutenant without taking the written test.
The unit also involves its cadets in rendering social service. Every year, the unit organizes blood donation camps and seminars on various topics like Anti corruption - Vigilance Awareness, Drug De-Addiction and Tree Plantation. Blood donation camps are arranged in the college in association with All India Pingalwara Society (Regd.), Asr. The wing held an anti-drug motorcycle rally to mark the celebration of the NCC day in the month of November 2007.  21 cadets received ’B’ certificate and 5 cadets received ’C’ certificate during the session 2007-08. 
A group of 18 cadets including boys and girls participated in the National Integration Camp at Lopoke. Our cadet Kajal of B.Sc. (Eco.)-I was adjudged the Best Shooter. The cadet Angrej Singh of B.Sc. (Eco.)  I won the first prize in cross country.  A group of 16 cadets participated in NIC camp held at Junagarh and 8 cadets attended NIC  camp at Gurgaon.

NSS
The NSS Unit of the college encourages the students to participate in community development programmes and tasks involving social service. The students working under this scheme are also given certificates. The unit also organises socio-economic activities to make them aware of social problems & their role and responsibilities.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs held an NSS camp at Govt. College, Sector 46, Chandigarh from September 29th, 2007 to October 05th, 2007. A ten member team of the college representing Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar participated in the camp and clinched the best State Award. Ramandeep  Kaur and Sherry Padam won the third and consolation Prizes respectively. Manpreet Singh and Varinderbir Kaur were adjudged the Best Folk Dancers in Cultural Competitions.

UGC GRANTS
The University Grants Commission gives grant to our college periodically for undertaking the assigned projects. In this context, it is worth-mentioning that the college receives grants from the commission from time to time to impart coaching to the undergraduates and post graduates students to prepare for various competitions/ tests meant for recruitment. Remedial Classes   for students weak in some subjects, again funded by the UGC, are also held from time to time in the college.

SPORTS ACTIVITIES
Sports are an integral part of education. Special attention is paid to the players of the college. A sports committee has been formed. It takes decisions regarding proper utilization of sports fund on various games & incentives and facilities to be provided to good players. Besides the D.P.E. who supervises and organises sports activities, there is a lecturer incharge of each game. There are spacious grounds and other facilities for hockey, kabbadi, volley ball, badminton, gatkka, cricket & athletics. Appropriate attention is also given to the games played by girls. Good players are also honoured. A Gymnasium with indoor games facility has been constructed for the students.
The college encourages its students to participate in sports. Our students have won laurels in the past in various tournaments organised by the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. A few outstanding sports activities and achievements are listed below:

  1. Gurjit Singh bagged the first position and got Rs. 7500/- as prize money in inter-colleges Judo championship organised by Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
  2. Amrinder Singh was awarded the certificate of merit for scoring the first place in hammer throw in the Guru Nanak Dev University inter-college athletics  championship 2007-2008.
  3. The college Hockey team won the runner up position in GNDU inter-college (Men) Tournament, 2007-08.

College Representative Council
The college Union Council (comprising representatives from senior classes and Post Graduate classes & some co-opted members) of which the Principal is the President, aims to assign certain responsibilities to the students and train them to properly conduct themselves in a team spirit in a democratic setup. The council strives to channelise the energy of the youth into worthwhile causes.
 As a representative body of the students, it acquaints the college authorities with problems and difficulties and tries to find out solutions.

Cultural Activities
 It is also one of the goals of education to make students aware of their cultural heritage. Keeping this objective in mind, many cultural activities are arranged in the college, so that students should take part in other fields of life besides their text books. Lectures, variety programmes incorporating plays, songs & cultural items are arranged from time to time. These co-curricular activities not only ensure a fuller development of the personality of students but also create a pleasant atmosphere in the campus. S. lakha Singh is the incharge of cultural activities.

INFORMATION OFFICER
In compliance with the right to Information Act 2005 for bringing transparency, openness and accountability in college affairs, the college has deputed Shri. Jatinder Kumar, Sr. Lect. in Mathematics as Information Officer to provide information to the prospective students regarding admission process, courses available, fee structure, funds or any other information. The Information Officer can be contacted at his telephone no. 98882 34126.

Literary Association
A Literary Association of students has been formed. Its members elect their President, Secretary & Treasurer. The object of the association is to guide and help the budding student writers of Punjabi, Hindi & English. It encourages the students to develop reading habit & to cultivate their aesthetic tastes. S. Paramvir Singh, S. Paramjit Singh & Mrs. Kanwalpreet Kaur supervise its activities.

The Alumni Association
An association of the college alumni has been formed. It gives valuable suggestions for the betterment of their Alma Mater. The members of the association meet periodically and discuss ways and means to make their Alma Mater a model one.

GUIDANCE CUM PLACEMENT CELL
The Guidance cum Placement Cell has been started for the benefit of students. Its chief aim is to orient and guide students regarding their career prospects. Full information is provided regarding employment opportunities and selection of courses/subjects through this cell. Besides students of the college, old students and people of the area can also receive information or help from the cell. The cell arranges orientation camps to acquaint the students about the various courses available and placement opportunities. Sh. Ajay Seghal is the incharge of the cell.

PLACEMENTS

  1. Harwinder Singh of M.Com-II has been placed as “Administrative Assistant” at Hospital Tourism Associated Centre, Cornwall, Great Britain.
  2. Sherry Padam of M.Sc(Computer Science)-I & Jasvir Kaur of B.Com (Prof.)-III  have been placed as “Executive Operations” at IBM_Daksh Business Process Services Pvt. Ltd. Gurgaon.
  3. Ramanpreet Kaur of B.C.A-III has been placed as “Executive Technical Support” at Infosys Pvt. Ltd.
  4. Shivani Mahajan of M.Sc(Computer Science)-II has been placed as “ Executive Network Support” at HCL Technologies Ltd.

Bus facility
The college has a fleet of twelve buses for the commutation of its students. The bus facility is available for Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Patti, Valtoha, Khemkarn, Bhikhiwind, Chhabal, Sabhra, Goindwal Sahib, Fatehabad, Chohla Sahib, Moga, Zira, Makhu and Harike routes.  Separate bus facility is available for girl students.

HERITAGE HALL
Realizing the significance and need for preserving our precious Punjabi Heritage, the college has made a humble effort in this respect. Old articles of a bygone era reflecting our cultural heritage and way of life have been collected, arranged and displayed for the students. Some of the articles which include household items, agricultural implements, furniture, utensils etc. date back to the pre-partition period. Inspiring portraits and photographs of eminent and great personalities of the region have also been displayed in the hall. An exhibition of the items is held at least once a year for all to see and appreciate our common heritage.

CAFETERIA
The double-storey cafeteria is a splendid structure of state-of-the-art architectural design. It offers a wide variety of eatables hygienically prepared. There is a separate seating arrangement for girls and boys.

COLLEGE LAWN
A sprawling college lawn with its exotic trees, shrubs and seasonal plants is a source of joy for the students and the staff alike. Evergreen plants with good foliage have made the college fit to be called “a green college.”

GYMNASIUM
The college has recently added the Gymnasium facility for health conscious students and for those interested in indoor sports and games. The Gymnasium is equipped with adequate modern equipments. The credit of its establishment goes to Honorable Dr. Manohar Singh Gill, former Chief Election Commissioner of India and now Minister of state (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs & Sports of India who sanctioned a grant of Rs 7 Lac under the MPLAD scheme.

EDUCATIONAL TOURS AND EXCURSIONS
The educative value of tours need hardly be exaggerated. ”Travel in the younger sort is a part of education; in the elder, a part of experience,” wrote Francis Bacon 400 years ago. Traveling frees and broadens our mind. It satisfies our instinct of curiosity and spirit of adventure. The college frequently arranges tours with liberal financial assistance to far off places which are either historically important or salubrious.

OTHER FACILITIES
Three Photostat machines, a P.C.O. and a Book Shop have been provided in the college campus to meet the needs of students. The parking shed is also available for the vehicles of students.
